49ers Keep an Eye on Trade Rumors Surrounding Jalen Ramsey

The San Francisco 49ers’ defense saw a noticeable drop-off last season, despite having plenty of star power. Their struggles were followed by significant offseason changes, with key contributors like Dre Greenlaw, Charvarius Ward, Aaron Banks, and Talanoa Hufanga departing via free agency.

As they look to rebound in 2025, San Francisco’s focus on talent acquisition became crucial. The rehire of Robert Saleh as defensive coordinator marked a key step in this process, culminating in a draft focused on strengthening the defense.

Meanwhile, their NFC West rivals are also making moves to bolster their defenses. The Los Angeles Rams, in particular, could be preparing for a major move, potentially trading for cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Currently with the Miami Dolphins, Ramsey’s time with Miami is ending, and the Dolphins are now working to find his next destination.

However, a trade with the Rams could come at a cost for Miami. NFL insider Albert Breer reports that a deal with the Rams could require them to absorb over \$24 million of Ramsey’s guaranteed salary, a financial burden that may delay or even block the trade. Miami is navigating a tight cap situation, so any unwillingness by the Rams to help with the financials could hinder the deal.

While the Rams’ pursuit of Ramsey hangs in the balance, the 49ers should closely monitor how their rivals in the NFC West approach the final stages of the offseason as they all work to strengthen their teams.
