5 Potential Landing Spots for Giannis Antetokounmpo if Bucks Decide to Move On

With Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future in Milwaukee uncertain, several teams might emerge as potential trade destinations if the two-time MVP decides it’s time for a change. Here are five possible landing spots if the Greek Freak opts to move on:

Oklahoma City Thunder

Few teams are better positioned to make a serious push for Antetokounmpo than the Thunder. With a wealth of first-round picks accumulated over the past few seasons, general manager Sam Presti has both the assets and young talent to entice the Bucks. Oklahoma City could offer a package centered around 2025 All-Star Jalen Williams, a versatile wing who can handle the ball and facilitate the offense, potentially easing the impact of Damian Lillard’s long-term injury. Adding Isaiah Hartenstein, a defensive-minded big man, could also provide the Bucks a suitable replacement for the aging Brook Lopez, who will hit free agency this summer.

For the Thunder, pairing Antetokounmpo with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, Lu Dort, and Alex Caruso would create one of the most formidable lineups in the league, both offensively and defensively.

Cleveland Cavaliers

While Cleveland’s frontcourt of Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen is one of the league’s best defensive duos, moving one of them in a deal for Antetokounmpo might be worth the risk. The Bucks could receive Darius Garland, a young and highly skilled playmaker, to fill the gap left by Lillard, who may miss the entire 2025-26 season with a torn Achilles. With limited draft assets, Milwaukee would gain stability by adding Garland, while still remaining competitive in the near term.

San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs, now centered around rising star Victor Wembanyama and All-Star De’Aaron Fox, might be ready to make a bold move. A package featuring Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, and Jeremy Sochan, along with multiple draft picks, could be enough to lure Antetokounmpo to San Antonio. For Milwaukee, this deal would provide a younger core and replenish their depleted draft stock, setting the stage for a potential quick rebuild.

Houston Rockets

The Rockets have a deep pool of young talent and draft capital, making them an intriguing option. A potential deal could involve parting with Jalen Green and Jabari Smith Jr., two of their most promising young players, along with draft picks. To make the salaries match, a third team like the Detroit Pistons might need to get involved, possibly sending a veteran like Dillon Brooks to Milwaukee.

Toronto Raptors

Masai Ujiri has long been linked to Giannis, and if the Bucks star becomes available, Toronto could make a compelling case. A trade package could include RJ Barrett, Jakob Poeltl, and a mix of young prospects like Gradey Dick and Ja’Kobe Walter, giving Milwaukee both immediate contributors and long-term assets. For the Raptors, the move would create a formidable lineup alongside Scottie Barnes and Brandon Ingram, solidifying their position as a serious contender in the Eastern Conference.
