Brazil Keep Ancelotti Hope Alive as Madrid Talks Stall – Sources

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has extended its deadline for Carlo Ancelotti to accept the role of their men’s national team coach, ESPN sources revealed on Thursday. The CBF is reportedly willing to wait until Real Madrid’s LaLiga title race concludes before expecting a final decision from the Italian manager.

Currently, Real Madrid trails league leaders Barcelona by four points with only five matches remaining, including a highly anticipated Clásico showdown between the two rivals scheduled for May 11th.

Sources have indicated to ESPN that there is an ongoing disagreement between Ancelotti and Real Madrid regarding the terms and timing of his potential departure from the club. This issue needs to be resolved before Ancelotti can officially agree to take on the Brazil job.

The CBF is eager to have their new coach in place by May 26th, which is when the next Brazil squad will be announced for the World Cup qualifying matches in June against Ecuador and Paraguay.

Earlier reports from ESPN suggested that Ancelotti and Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez were expected to meet in the coming days to discuss the situation.

While Ancelotti has been Brazil’s long-term preferred candidate to lead the national team through the 2026 World Cup, the financial complexities surrounding his exit from Real Madrid are now presenting a significant obstacle.

Real Madrid’s final game of the LaLiga season is scheduled to be played at the Bernabéu against Real Sociedad on either May 24th or 25th.
