Brock Purdy has made a decision regarding his holdout amid ongoing contract negotiations with the San Francisco 49ers.

The San Francisco 49ers have already locked in an extension with George Kittle, but are still in negotiations for a deal with quarterback Brock Purdy.

Kittle’s new four-year, \$76 million extension has set the stage, and now all eyes are on Purdy as he is expected to become one of the highest-paid players in the league. He was present for the voluntary portion of the team’s offseason program, signaling that a holdout is unlikely, and that a deal could be close. According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Purdy’s attendance suggests they are nearing an agreement. “I don’t believe Brock Purdy shows up to OTAs unless he’s confident they’re close to an agreement he’s comfortable with,” Russini explained on her podcast. “Players usually don’t show up if the gap is too wide.”

With the next phase of the offseason program set to start on May 27, Russini believes Purdy’s presence in Phase 1 signals that he expects the deal to get done. Although the 49ers have had holdouts in the past, including a lengthy one with Brandon Aiyuk, it doesn’t seem like that will be the case with Purdy. His upcoming contract is expected to make him the highest-paid player in franchise history. Sports Illustrated’s Grant Cohn also predicts a deal will be finalized before training camp in July, as quarterbacks typically sign extensions around that time.
