Carlo Ancelotti Set to Become Brazil’s New Head Coach, Will Start This Month

According to recent reports, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has been appointed as the next head coach of the Brazilian national team and is set to begin his new role shortly.

Ancelotti’s second stint at Real Madrid has brought significant success, including two Champions League titles and a pair of La Liga championships. However, this season has been disappointing for the Spanish giants, who are on track to finish without a major trophy. The 65-year-old has faced mounting criticism following Madrid’s early Champions League exit and their likely failure to overtake FC Barcelona in the domestic league.

Despite being under contract with Real Madrid until 2026, it has become increasingly clear that Ancelotti will leave the Santiago Bernabéu this summer. Reports indicate that Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has already agreed to take over at Madrid, with Fabrizio Romano confirming the deal.

“Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, here we go!” Romano reported. “Contract signed for Xabi as new head coach until 2028. Staff sorted, deal sealed, and Madrid are planning for him to take charge for the FIFA Club World Cup.”

Meanwhile, The Athletic’s David Ornstein confirmed that Ancelotti has already signed his contract to become Brazil’s head coach, with his tenure set to start on May 26, shortly after Real Madrid’s final La Liga fixture against Real Sociedad. This makes Ancelotti the first foreign coach to lead the Brazilian men’s national team.

Ornstein’s report reads:

“Carlo Ancelotti has been appointed head coach of the Brazil national team and will take up his new role on May 26. The 65-year-old Italian will leave Real Madrid after their final league match. Agreements are in place, and contracts have been signed, marking the first time a non-Brazilian has been appointed to the men’s dugout.”

Ancelotti had previously been linked to a lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League, but it appears he has opted for the challenge of managing the five-time World Cup champions instead. Following Ornstein’s update, Romano echoed the news, tweeting: “Carlo Ancelotti will be the new Brazil head coach, plan confirmed and agreement done. The staff has been decided, documents signed, and a farewell to Real Madrid is set. Ancelotti will begin his new role at the end of May. Here we go!”
