“Celtics Collapse in Game 1, Fall to Knicks 108–105 After Blowing 20-Point Lead in Overtime”
In a thrilling and heartbreaking Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, the Boston Celtics saw a dominant 20-point lead slip away as they were defeated by the New York Knicks, 108-105, in overtime. The Celtics appeared in control early on, with strong performances from Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, but their shooting woes ultimately proved costly. Boston struggled mightily from beyond the arc, hitting only 15 of their 60 three-point attempts, which severely impacted their ability to close out the game.
Kristaps Porzingis, one of Boston’s key players, was forced to leave the game early due to illness, further hampering the Celtics’ offensive flow. Despite this setback, the team had ample opportunities to seal the win, but their failure to convert key shots in crunch time allowed the Knicks to claw their way back into the contest. With strong contributions from Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby, New York capitalized on every Celtics mistake and managed to force overtime.

In the extra period, Boston’s inability to regain their rhythm allowed the Knicks to edge out a narrow win. The Celtics’ overall lack of execution in the final minutes of regulation and overtime, coupled with their poor shooting, leaves them in a challenging position as they head into Game 2. They will need to regroup and focus on executing better, particularly with their shooting efficiency and closing out games, to avoid falling behind in the series.
The Celtics now face the daunting task of recovering and finding a way to win Game 2 to keep their playoff hopes alive, with adjustments needed in both offense and defense.
