Chelsea Owners Back Enzo Maresca for Next Season Regardless of Champions League Outcome

Chelsea Owners Back Enzo Maresca for Next Season Regardless of Champions League Outcome
Enzo Maresca is expected to remain as Chelsea’s head coach for the 2025-26 campaign, even if the club fails to secure Champions League qualification this season. This decision comes directly from the club’s ownership, led by Todd Boehly.

Sources within Chelsea indicate that the owners are committed to a longer-term evaluation of the Italian coach’s progress. The current plan is to assess Maresca’s performance until the summer of 2026 before making any definitive decisions about his future at Stamford Bridge.

This show of support comes despite growing uncertainty surrounding Chelsea’s Premier League position following a recent 2-0 defeat to Newcastle. This loss has jeopardized their hopes of finishing in the top five and securing a Champions League spot.

With only two Premier League matches remaining, the Blues currently sit in fifth place. However, they are level on points with Aston Villa, with goal difference being the sole separator between the two sides.

Chelsea’s final two fixtures present a challenging path to potential Champions League qualification. They face a home game against Manchester United, who are also vying for European spots, followed by an away trip to Nottingham Forest, another team still in contention for European football next season.

Maresca took the helm at Stamford Bridge in June 2024, following a successful tenure with Leicester City, where he guided the Foxes to promotion back to the Premier League as champions. The Chelsea ownership appears willing to afford him time to implement his vision at the club, even if their immediate goal of Champions League qualification is not achieved.
