Christian McCaffrey: “Fully cleared” after injury-plagued 2024 season

After a frustrating, injury-plagued 2024 season, San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey has returned to offseason workouts with no limitations. On Tuesday, McCaffrey confirmed he’s dealing with “zero restrictions” as the team opened its offseason program. The dual-threat back missed the first eight games of last season due to bilateral Achilles tendinitis and the final five games because of a right knee PCL injury.

“I’m feeling great,” McCaffrey said. “It’s been a smooth process, lots of hard work. As soon as that injury happened in Buffalo, my goal was to not miss OTAs and be back 100%, and that’s where I’m at.”

The 2024 campaign was tough for McCaffrey, who managed just 202 rushing yards and 146 receiving yards with no touchdowns in four games. His return to training camp last year was cut short due to the Achilles issue, and his comeback ended abruptly in Week 13 when he injured his knee in Buffalo. However, McCaffrey said he began training at full speed early in the offseason and now feels fully recovered.

Alongside his physical return, McCaffrey is also embracing personal milestones, including becoming a father soon. He’s energized by the strong attendance at the team’s workouts and the renewed sense of focus, even after a 6-11 season and significant roster turnover.

“I like the narrative going around,” he said. “It’s a chance to prove people wrong. We’re committed, ready to jell, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.”
