Cowboys stuck to their draft board, but key holes still remain.

After the Dallas Cowboys made their nine selections during the 2025 NFL Draft, there were high-fives, fist bumps, and hugs in their draft room. They followed their draft board, picking the highest-rated players at the time, including guard Tyler Booker, defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku, and cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. Later, in Rounds 5-7, they added depth to the offensive and defensive lines and linebacker spots, along with two running backs.

Despite bolstering Dak Prescott’s protection with the line and possibly improving the running game, the Cowboys still face a wide receiver dilemma. They entered the draft looking for a No. 2 receiver to complement CeeDee Lamb, but they didn’t address that need directly. While many expected them to select a receiver early, they instead picked Ezeiruaku and Revel. They did draft running back Jaydon Blue in the fifth round and added Phil Mafah in the seventh, but the WR2 spot remains unfilled.

The Cowboys stuck to their process, trusting their draft board over simply filling a need. They’ve done this in past years with successful picks like Lamb and Micah Parsons. Now, it’s up to the front office to address the remaining gaps, especially in free agency. With roughly $37 million in cap space, they have room to make moves, and owner Jerry Jones mentioned ongoing talks about potential trades, including a veteran receiver.

Currently, Jalen Tolbert is the No. 2 receiver behind Lamb, with KaVontae Turpin and others in the mix. The Cowboys also added Parris Campbell in free agency but still lack a proven No. 2. They have hope for growth with players like Tolbert, Mingo, and Flournoy, but coach Brian Schottenheimer stressed they’ll keep seeking improvements, particularly at receiver.

As Jerry Jones pointed out, the Cowboys’ receiving depth could improve with more experience, but they need to prove it on the field. The opportunity to upgrade remains, and the Cowboys are watching for any chance to strengthen the roster.
