Cowboys Win Fans Over with Schotty’s Arrival

FRISCO – While Brian Schottenheimer may be a first-time head coach in the NFL, you’d never guess it from the way he speaks.

Why? Because coaching is in his blood.

Brian’s late father, Marty, was a respected figure in the NFL, having coached for 21 seasons after a long tenure as a position coach and coordinator. Growing up in this environment, Brian was constantly around the game, witnessing how his father handled his responsibilities and built relationships with coaches and players.

Since taking the reins of the Dallas Cowboys, “Schotty” has displayed the leadership qualities instilled in him from an early age, and it’s starting to resonate with Cowboys fans.

During this week’s rookie minicamp at The Star, Schottenheimer held his first solo press conference as head coach. Right from the start, something felt different. There was no lectern or podium; Schottenheimer chose to sit at a table with the media.

This simple change marked the first time since 2010, under Wade Phillips, that a Cowboys head coach has opted to sit down for a press conference instead of standing behind a lectern. The result? A much more conversational and engaging tone that fostered a sense of connection with the fans and media.

Throughout the session, Schottenheimer cracked jokes, addressed reporters by name, and emphasized his authentic approach. He expressed a commitment to staying true to himself, saying, “I promised myself I wouldn’t change because I’ve seen too many people change and fail.”

While fans are warming up to Schottenheimer, the real test will be whether he can deliver on his promises for success. So far, he’s showing veteran-level poise in his new role.
