Florida dominated the Sooners in Game 2, forcing a decisive rubber match.

The Sooners triumphed over Florida in the series opener on Friday, winning 6-5 in extra innings, but Game 2 on Saturday was a different story. The Gators handed the Sooners a 9-4 loss, forcing a rubber game on Sunday.

Without Sam Landry on the mound, the Sooners’ pitching staff struggled to contain Florida’s offense. Kierston Deal started the game with hopes of building on her strong performance against Texas last weekend, but she faced early challenges. She allowed two walks and an RBI single in the first inning, which tied the game. In the second, Deal walked two batters and allowed a grand slam to Taylor Shumaker, putting the Sooners in a 5-1 hole. Isabella Smith replaced Deal but struggled as well, giving up three home runs in the fifth inning, extending Florida’s lead to 9-4. Audrey Lowry relieved Smith and pitched 1.2 scoreless innings.

The Sooners’ offense began strong with an RBI from Gabbie Garcia in the first inning, giving them a brief 1-0 lead. After three scoreless innings, Hannah Coor hit a leadoff double in the fifth, and Kasidi Pickering walked. Ella Parker followed with a three-run home run, reducing Florida’s lead to 5-4. However, Florida responded in the fifth inning, regaining control.

Despite the loss, the Sooners clinched the SEC regular season title earlier in the day after Tennessee’s win over Texas A\&M. They’ll look to secure the series win in the rubber game on Sunday at 4 p.m. (ESPN).
