Former Wolverine gets 6th year of eligibility, set to visit Michigan next season

Terrance Williams II has been granted a sixth year of eligibility and will return to USC for the 2025-26 college basketball season. After transferring from Michigan and suffering a season-ending wrist injury early last year, the former Wolverine will get another shot at finishing his college career strong.

USC recently confirmed Williams’ return, and he told MLive that his medical hardship waiver has been approved by the NCAA. Williams played in just seven games for the Trojans last season, starting six, before breaking the scaphoid bone in his right (shooting) wrist on Dec. 4. He missed the remainder of the season but was off to a solid start, averaging 10.6 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting a career-best 51% from the field.

The Trojans finished 17-18 overall and 7-13 in Big Ten play under first-year head coach Eric Musselman. They are scheduled to visit Michigan next season at a date yet to be announced.

Williams’ eligibility for a sixth season is due in part to the NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver, which did not count his freshman year in 2020-21. That season, he came off the bench for a Michigan team that won the Big Ten and reached the Elite Eight. He saw increased playing time as a sophomore and became a regular starter during his final two seasons under former head coach Juwan Howard.

After graduating from Michigan, Williams considered staying to play for new coach Dusty May but ultimately decided to transfer—remaining in the Big Ten by joining USC. He told MLive in January that moving to Los Angeles had been a great decision.
