Highly regarded Israeli basketball prospect Omer Mayer has committed to Purdue.

Omer Mayer, a highly touted international basketball prospect from Israel, has committed to Purdue, he confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday.

“I’m excited and grateful for this opportunity,” Mayer told ESPN. “I’ve played at top levels in Israel and Europe, and I can’t wait to help Purdue compete for a championship next season.”

Mayer recently impressed at the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Oregon, showcasing his skills in practices and contributing seven assists in 19 minutes during the official game, where the World Team lost to the USA in overtime.

At last summer’s FIBA U18 European Championship, he was one of the standout players, averaging 18.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game for Israel, which qualified for this summer’s FIBA U19 World Cup by finishing fourth.

The 18-year-old, 6-foot-4, 215-pound point guard has been developing with Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he posted a career-high 11 points and three assists earlier this month in a win over Bayern Munich, a EuroLeague playoff team—a rare feat for someone his age.

Mayer visited Purdue after the Hoop Summit and also checked out Duke and Auburn before choosing to commit to Boilermakers coach Matt Painter. The plan is for Mayer to develop alongside All-American Braden Smith, regarded as the best point guard in college basketball, and take on more responsibility once Smith graduates next summer.

Purdue, fresh off back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances, including a national championship runner-up finish in 2024 to UConn, is expected to return much of its core, including First Team All-Big Ten forward Trey Kaufman-Renn and third-leading scorer Fletcher Loyer.
