How will UCLA transform with the addition of Booker?
The UCLA Bruins have added sophomore forward Xavier Booker from the transfer portal, a former five-star prospect who struggled in his first two seasons at Michigan State but still holds significant potential. At 6-11 and 240 pounds, Booker brings size and talent to UCLA’s previously thin frontcourt.
Booker, who transferred from Michigan State after the Spartans’ Elite Eight run, played 60 games over two seasons, averaging 4.3 points and 2.0 rebounds on 42.5% shooting. However, his role diminished towards the end of the season, as he only logged three minutes in the Round of 64 win over Bryant and saw minimal playing time in the final month of the campaign. Despite a lack of consistency, Booker showed glimpses of promise, including a season-high 18 points against Oakland University and 12 points in a win over North Carolina.

Booker’s style includes a reliance on the 3-point shot, where he struggled with a 23.3% shooting rate last season, attempting 2.2 shots per game. While his deep shooting may need adjustment, his size and potential remain undeniable.
Under UCLA head coach Mick Cronin, Booker is expected to improve, honing his defensive skills and learning to be more aggressive with the ball. Though his addition might not immediately propel UCLA to new heights, the upside is clear. With the right coaching and opportunities, Booker could become a key contributor, elevating his game to a higher level and adding depth to the Bruins’ roster.
