Jazz Insider Dismisses Lakers’ Chances of Landing Walker Kessler

Walker Kessler has been a frequent name in trade rumors involving the Los Angeles Lakers, with speculation dating back to last offseason. The 23-year-old Utah Jazz center is coming off his best season yet, averaging 11.1 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks on 66.3% shooting over 58 games. Given the Lakers’ need for a strong, defensive-minded big man, Kessler appears to be an ideal fit—and one they’d likely pay handsomely for.

However, hopes of acquiring Kessler have been tempered by recent reports. According to The Athletic’s Tony Jones, the Jazz have no plans to move him unless they receive an “offer they would be a fool to say no to.” Jones revealed that the Lakers made a significant push for Kessler at the trade deadline, even exceeding the value of a first-round pick and two swaps, though details remain vague.

Kessler’s defensive growth and fit with Utah’s long-term plans make him a cornerstone for the franchise. While a trade would likely demand multiple first-round picks and a rising talent like Austin Reaves or Dalton Knecht, that price may be too steep for L.A. Meanwhile, Utah is preparing to extend Kessler this summer, aiming to keep him off the trade block entirely.
