Jeremy Crawshaw Becomes NFL’s Top Punter Prospect, Joins Broncos After Standout Florida Career.

Australian punter Jeremy Crawshaw has been drafted by the Denver Broncos, marking another major step for Aussies in the NFL. The 23-year-old from Emu Plains in western Sydney was the first punter selected in this year’s draft, going in the sixth round (No. 216) after five strong seasons at the University of Florida. Known for his power and precision, Crawshaw averaged 45.8 yards per punt in 2024, and set a Florida single-season record in 2023 with a 48.9-yard average.

He’ll now compete with veteran Matt Haack for the starting job in Denver, though drafted punters typically have an inside edge. Crawshaw joins a growing list of Australian specialists in the league, including Mitch Wishnowsky, Michael Dickson, Cameron Johnston, and Tory Taylor.

A former rugby player, Crawshaw credited his switch to punting as a post-school pursuit that led to a scholarship at Florida. His pre-draft scouting report hailed him as a “field-position weapon” with elite control and adaptability — ideal for teams playing in outdoor, weather-sensitive environments. Coaches also valued his ability to hold on placekicks and execute a variety of punt styles.

The Broncos’ special teams coach, Darren Rizzi, reportedly took a personal interest in Crawshaw, meeting him during Florida’s Pro Day. Crawshaw joins a rookie class that includes defensive back Jahdae Barron and running back RJ Harvey, among others.
