Lakers’ JJ Redick Focused on One Goal Ahead of Pivotal Offseason

The Los Angeles Lakers are heading into a long offseason after another disappointing first-round playoff exit. This time, they fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in just five games—the same number of games it took for them to be eliminated last year. Despite entering the series as favorites, it quickly became evident that the matchup didn’t work in their favor.

A series of mid-season decisions, not including the high-profile Luka Doncic trade, proved costly when it mattered most. However, the blame for the Lakers’ early exit doesn’t rest on one factor alone. It’s a shared responsibility throughout the organization—including first-year head coach JJ Redick.

On Thursday, Redick and Lakers president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka spoke with the media to reflect on the season. Redick took the moment to assess his debut year as an NBA head coach, acknowledging both the highs and the challenges he faced.

While his response to the media was somewhat broad, Redick made it clear that he has one primary focus heading into the offseason: self-improvement.

“How can I be better? I’m going to take a lot of time to really self-evaluate… and figure out ways I can be better and ways I can help get us closer to hanging Banner 18,” Redick stated.

His comments highlight a determination to grow in his role and help push the Lakers back into true championship contention—a goal that now defines this crucial offseason for both Redick and the franchise.
