Lions Select DE in Early 2026 Mock Drafts

With the 2025 NFL Draft in the rearview, it’s time to look ahead to the early 2026 mock drafts. These projections have the Detroit Lions selecting between No. 26 and No. 29 overall, with a clear focus on bolstering their EDGE position.

ESPN’s Jordan Reid suggests that Cashius Howell from Texas A\&M could be a big riser in the 2026 draft class. Howell spent much of 2024 behind Shemar Stewart and Nic Scourton, but he impressed in the Las Vegas Bowl with a sack and an interception. With Aidan Hutchinson recovering from an injury, Howell could provide the Lions with much-needed depth and pass-rushing potential.

Pro Football Focus analysts Max Chadwick and Dalton Wasserman project Dani Dennis-Sutton from Penn State as a first-round pick for Detroit. Known for his impressive traits as a pass rusher, Dennis-Sutton has been one of the most valuable returning edge defenders over the last two years. His 75 pressures during that period rank just behind T.J. Parker, making him a top target for the Lions’ defense.

NBC Sports’ Eric Froton and CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards see Matayo Uiagalelei from Oregon as another potential pick for Detroit. The brother of former Clemson quarterback DJ, Matayo recorded 10.5 sacks and is known for his disruptive play. Pairing him with Hutchinson could give the Lions a dominant pass-rushing duo, making it a nightmare for NFC North offenses.
