Liverpool FC to Honor Late Diogo Jota’s Contract, Continuing Salary Payments to Family Until 2027

Liverpool Football Club has announced that it will continue to pay the salary of the late Portuguese forward Diogo Jota to his family until the expiration of his contract in 2027. Jota, who tragically passed away on July 3, 2025, in a car accident in Zamora, Spain, was earning approximately £140,000 per week under his current deal with the club.

The 28-year-old striker had been a key figure for Liverpool since his arrival from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020, making significant contributions to the team’s domestic and European campaigns. At the time of his death, Jota had two years remaining on his contract.

In a statement, Liverpool FC confirmed that the club will fulfill the financial terms of Jota’s contract, with payments directed to his widow, Rute Cardoso, and their three children.

The football community has widely praised the club’s compassionate decision, viewing it as a testament to the strong values and family culture within Liverpool FC. The club is also planning a memorial service at Anfield to celebrate Jota’s life and achievements.
