Liverpool Gain Surprise Edge in Race to Sign Ademola Lookman
Ademola Lookman, the 27-year-old Nigerian forward, is widely tipped to leave Atalanta, where he has enjoyed a successful stint since his low-key arrival from RB Leipzig in 2022. 1 With his contract set to expire in 2027 and no indication of an extension, several top European clubs are circling.
During his time with La Dea, Lookman has blossomed into one of Serie A’s most potent attackers, netting 51 goals in 115 appearances. His achievements include winning the Europa League title and being crowned the African Footballer of the Year.
A host of prominent clubs are reportedly vying for his signature. In Italy, Napoli and Juventus are said to be interested, while Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United are also reportedly in the frame.
However, Liverpool may possess a crucial advantage in the pursuit of Lookman. The Merseyside club reportedly has a player that Atalanta is keen to acquire, potentially opening the door for a player-plus-cash deal or giving Liverpool leverage in direct negotiations. This could give the Reds an edge over their rivals in securing the highly-rated Nigerian international.
