Luka Dončić Faces Tough Decision on Contract Extension with Lakers Ahead of Deadline
Luka Dončić, who recently joined the Los Angeles Lakers after being traded from the Dallas Mavericks, is now dealing with a contract dilemma. Previously, he was in line for a five-year, $345 million supermax extension with Dallas, but that opportunity was lost with the trade. Now, Dončić can opt for a four-year, $228.6 million extension with the Lakers. Alternatively, he could choose a shorter deal to position himself for a more lucrative contract once he reaches 10 years of NBA experience in 2028.
While the financial decision is significant, Dončić has expressed satisfaction with his new role in Los Angeles, focusing on building a championship-caliber team with the Lakers. The deadline for him to make a decision on his contract extension is in August 2025.
