**Mikal Bridges’ Grit Powers Knicks Past Celtics in Game 1 Showdown**

Trailing 108-105 with just three seconds left in overtime, the Boston Celtics had one last shot to tie Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. Derrick White lofted a cross-court inbound pass toward Jaylen Brown, hoping to set up a clutch moment. But New York Knicks forward Mikal Bridges had other plans. Reading the play like a seasoned NFL cornerback, Bridges zeroed in on Brown’s eyes and pounced as soon as the ball was in his hands, ripping it away and sealing a dramatic comeback win for the Knicks.

“I was just watching his eyes,” Bridges explained after the game. “I’m a football guy.” His instincts paid off, ending a game that had once seemed lost for New York.

The Knicks had trailed by 20 points—75-55—with just under six minutes left in the third quarter. Boston had dominated early, with Jayson Tatum exploiting Karl-Anthony Towns in pick-and-rolls, forcing him into foul trouble. The Celtics also employed a Hack-a-Robinson strategy, sending Mitchell Robinson to the line, where he made only three of ten free throws. The Knicks looked flat, outmatched, and out of sync.

But in the huddle, something shifted. The Knicks regrouped, locked in defensively, and clawed their way back into the game through sheer toughness and willpower.

“Those are big-time toughness plays,” said head coach Tom Thibodeau. “Defense, toughness, teamwork — that’s how you win in the playoffs.”

Josh Hart summed it up best: “Just toughness. Just grittiness.” And that grit earned New York a 1-0 lead in the series.
