NBC Brings Michael Jordan Onboard as Special Contributor for NBA Coverage
Michael Jordan will join NBC Sports as a special contributor for its NBA broadcasts, beginning with the 2025-26 season.
This move marks a significant return for NBC, which held national NBA broadcasting rights from 1991 to 2002, including all six of Jordan’s championships with the Chicago Bulls. The network lost the rights to ABC/ESPN in 2003 but will now broadcast up to 100 regular season games, select playoff matchups, and the All-Star Game starting this fall. Games will also be available for streaming on Peacock, although the NBA Finals will remain with ABC.
“I’m thrilled to see the NBA return to NBC,” Jordan said in a statement. “The NBA on NBC was a key part of my playing career, and I’m looking forward to contributing to this new chapter. See you all when the NBA on NBC returns this October.”
Jordan, widely regarded as the greatest basketball player of all time, boasts an impressive list of achievements: 14 All-Star selections, 11 All-NBA honors, 9 All-Defensive Team selections, 10 scoring titles, 5 regular season MVPs, and a Defensive Player of the Year award.
A Major Move for NBC
The addition of Jordan, now 62, is a major win for NBC as it aims to make a splash in its NBA comeback. Although his exact role is still being finalized, his presence will undoubtedly be a significant draw for fans.
NBC has already confirmed that former NBA stars Reggie Miller, Carmelo Anthony, and Jamal Crawford will join the coverage as analysts. Longtime sportscaster Mike Tirico and rising star Noah Eagle will handle play-by-play duties, with more announcements expected soon.
Rising Competition in NBA Broadcasting
NBC isn’t the only network making moves in the NBA landscape. Amazon Prime Video has also secured a major broadcasting deal, adding Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, and Blake Griffin as analysts. Taylor Rooks will host the coverage, which will include the In-Season Tournament and select conference finals games. Amazon’s coverage will primarily air on Fridays and Saturdays as part of an 11-year deal.
