New information raises concerns about the state of Jaylen Brown’s knee.

Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown missed Friday night’s matchup against the Charlotte Hornets due to a knee injury, and it appears the reigning NBA Finals MVP may need to push through lingering discomfort during the playoffs.

The Celtics listed Brown out for the game with a right knee posterior impingement, an issue that has persisted for several weeks. Brown recently acknowledged that he may not return to full health for the rest of the season.

According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, Brown received pain management injections earlier in the week in an effort to accelerate his recovery.

He’s currently dealing with a bone bruise—a condition known to cause significant discomfort. Despite the pain, Shelburne noted that Brown is expected to be available when Boston begins its postseason campaign on April 19 or 20.

Brown also sat out Wednesday’s loss to the Orlando Magic, which officially disqualifies him from All-NBA honors due to the league’s 65-game minimum requirement.

With the Celtics already locked into the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, the team seems to be exercising caution with one of its key players. Brown is also expected to sit out Sunday’s regular-season finale against Charlotte.

This season, Brown has posted averages of 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. He averaged 23.9 points during Boston’s title-winning run last year.
