No need to worry, MSU’s off season is quite similar to last year’s

Some Michigan State basketball fans remain concerned about the Spartans’ chances as a conference contender next season, especially after missing out on five-star recruit Darius Adams. Despite reaching the Elite Eight last season after starting unranked, some still question Tom Izzo’s roster, particularly after the team lost key players like Tre Holloman, Xavier Booker, Gehrig Normand, Jase Richardson, and leading scorer Jaden Akins.

There was frustration as Michigan State remained quiet in the transfer portal while other conference contenders made improvements. However, the Spartans finally made moves, adding former Florida Atlantic wing Kaleb Glenn, who could start or provide crucial depth, and former Sanford guard Trey Fort to address their shooting guard position. With those additions, the team has strengthened key areas, even though some fans are still skeptical about their chances given the losses to other teams’ gains.

This situation mirrors last offseason, when the Spartans were coming off a Round of 32 exit. Michigan State lost its top three scorers—Tyson Walker, AJ Hoggard, and Malik Hall—but found success with a balanced mix of youth and experience. The team added size with Szymon Zapala and Frankie Fidler and brought in promising four-star prospect Jase Richardson. This year, they have Cam Ward, another promising recruit. No one predicted Richardson’s breakout season, just as no one knows what to expect from Ward.

Given last year’s unexpected success, Spartan fans should have faith. Tom Izzo has earned their trust.
