Packers decline 5th-year option on 2022 first-rounder, unlike the Lions.

The Green Bay Packers, like the Detroit Lions, selected two players in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. However, unlike the Lions, the Packers declined the fifth-year options on both of their picks.

Green Bay exercised the option for DT Devonte Wyatt, but declined it for LB Quay Walker. Wyatt, the 28th overall pick, will see his option worth \$13.9 million in 2026. Walker, selected 22nd after the Packers traded for the pick, had his option set at \$14.7 million, but Green Bay found it too costly. Despite Walker’s 100+ tackles in each of his first three seasons, the Packers opted out due to the high value of his position in the option formula.

This decision contrasts with the Lions, who picked up the options for DE Aidan Hutchinson and WR Jameson Williams, securing their contracts through 2026.

Elsewhere in the NFC North, the Bears traded away their 2022 first-round pick for QB Justin Fields, and the Vikings’ Lewis Cine, selected 32nd overall, is now with the Eagles after stints with two other teams.
