Penn State Adds Cincinnati Transfer Josh Reed to Men’s Basketball Roster

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Head coach Mike Rhoades has officially announced the addition of Cincinnati transfer Josh Reed to the Penn State men’s basketball program. The 6-foot-8 forward will join the Nittany Lions with one season of eligibility remaining.

“We’re excited to welcome Josh to the Penn State basketball family,” said Rhoades. “He brings versatility, strong perimeter shooting, and defensive toughness. More importantly, he’s a high-character individual who will thrive on and off the court.”

A native of Atlanta, Reed played in 97 games over three seasons with the Bearcats. In his junior year, he started nine of Cincinnati’s final 10 games, averaging 4.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game while shooting 85.3% from the free-throw line. Known as one of the team’s top defenders, Reed scored in double figures six times—all in the last two months of the season. His standout performance came against Oklahoma State on March 11, when he scored a career-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting.

During his sophomore year, Reed appeared in 35 of 37 games, averaging 2.0 points and 2.0 rebounds, with season-highs of six points in games against Evansville and Oklahoma State. As a freshman, he played in 29 games and shot 40% from beyond the arc.

Out of high school, Reed was ranked among Rivals’ top 150 prospects. A standout at Pace Academy, he was a two-time state champion, first-team all-state honoree, and three-time all-region selection. He averaged 17 points per game in high school and 20 points per game on the AAU circuit with AC Georgia.
