Premier League Issues Statement After VAR Controversy Over Evanilson’s Decisive Goal Against Arsenal

Arsenal led at halftime through a 34th-minute goal from Declan Rice, but Bournemouth mounted a second-half comeback.

Dean Huijsen leveled the score in the 67th minute with a header following a long throw-in. Just eight minutes later, Evanilson struck again, bundling in a scrappy second goal after a tussle with Martin Ødegaard during a corner routine.

Arsenal players protested, claiming the Brazilian had handled the ball, prompting a VAR review. However, referee Michael Salisbury’s decision to award the goal stood, and the Premier League later clarified the ruling.

In a statement on X, the league explained: “The referee’s call of goal was checked and confirmed by VAR – with no conclusive evidence that Evanilson handled the ball before scoring.”
