Purdue to Face Kentucky in High-Profile Exhibition Game
On October 24, 2025, the Purdue Boilermakers are set to face off against the Kentucky Wildcats at Rupp Arena in a highly anticipated exhibition game. This showdown is part of a new initiative by the NCAA, which allows Division I programs to participate in preseason exhibition games without the results affecting official season records or statistics. Though the matchup won’t impact either team’s standings, it presents a golden opportunity for both sides to evaluate their strengths and address weaknesses before the regular season begins. For fans, it’s a preview of two powerhouse programs going head-to-head in what could feel more like a tournament clash than a preseason tune-up.
Purdue heads into the game with considerable momentum, projected as a top-five team nationally. A key reason for this optimism is the return of All-American guard Braden Smith. Smith delivered a historic 2024–25 season, notching over 500 points, 300 assists, and 150 rebounds. He became the only player besides Ja Morant to achieve that rare statistical combination in a single college season. Even more impressively, Smith was the first Big Ten player ever to record 300 assists in one season, underlining his vital role in Purdue’s offense.

Guided by long-standing head coach Matt Painter—who boasts an impressive 496–220 career record and enters his 21st season at the helm—the Boilermakers are no strangers to success. Under his leadership, Purdue has made 16 NCAA tournament appearances over the past 18 seasons and reached the Sweet 16 eight times. As they prepare to face Kentucky, this exhibition will serve as an important benchmark in their preparation for another competitive season, while showcasing the talent and depth that make Purdue a formidable national contender.
