Ravens Reportedly Rejected Trade Proposal from Reigning Super Bowl Champions
This year, the Baltimore Ravens may have dodged a questionable trade that could have changed the course of their draft. On Saturday morning, the Philadelphia Eagles released behind-the-scenes footage of their draft war room, offering fans an inside look at key moments during last week’s NFL Draft. In the early part of the video, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is shown on the phone with Ravens GM Eric DeCosta. The call centered around a potential trade-down scenario, with the Eagles seemingly exploring a move up to the 27th overall pick.
Despite the inquiry, DeCosta and the Ravens ultimately declined the offer and decided to stay put at No. 27. With that pick, they selected standout Georgia safety Malaki Starks, widely regarded as one of the top defensive backs in the class. Known for his versatility, instincts, and range, Starks fits perfectly into Baltimore’s defensive scheme and could be a long-term solution in their secondary following the departure of key veterans.

Had the Ravens accepted the Eagles’ proposal, they may have missed the opportunity to bolster their defense with a player of Starks’ caliber. Given the Ravens’ tradition of building through the draft and developing elite defenders, the decision to hold firm appears wise in hindsight.
Philadelphia, meanwhile, was likely seeking to jump ahead of another team targeting a specific prospect. Although details of their proposed package were not revealed, the interaction highlighted how close draft-day deals can come to happening—and how even a simple “no” can shape a franchise’s future. For Baltimore, sticking with their draft board paid off.
