San Francisco 49ers Secure Tight End Ross Dwelley for One More Year”
The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to a one-year deal with veteran tight end Ross Dwelley, bringing him back to the team for the 2025 season. Dwelley, who has been a steady presence in the 49ers’ tight end room since 2018, has primarily served as a dependable backup and occasional starter. Known for his solid blocking and reliable hands, Dwelley will continue to play a key role in supporting star tight end George Kittle.
This move comes at a time when the 49ers are making several changes to their roster, especially after the 2025 NFL Draft. Several starters have departed, and the team is looking to the future with a promising class of rookies. Defensive linemen Mykel Williams and Alfred Collins, linebacker Nick Martin, and safety Marques Sigle are among the newcomers expected to make an immediate impact.

Offensively, running back Jordan James and receiver Jordan Watkins could see significant playing time, particularly with concerns over Christian McCaffrey’s injury history and Brandon Aiyuk’s post-surgery recovery from knee issues.
General Manager John Lynch has stressed the importance of this draft class in filling critical gaps and adding competition at key positions. The 49ers are projected to integrate several rookies into their 53-man roster, setting high expectations for them to make an impact early.
As the 49ers prepare for the new season, the combination of experienced veterans like Dwelley and rising rookies will be essential in helping the team succeed.
