Sanders’ Legacy Lives On as Shedeur Gets Drafted: The Ultimate Father-Son Sports Duos!

After a longer-than-expected wait, Shedeur Sanders is finally headed to the NFL, as the Cleveland Browns traded up with the Seattle Seahawks to select him with the 144th pick in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft.

Father’s Legacy:
Deion Sanders had an illustrious 14-season NFL career. Drafted fifth overall in 1989 by the Atlanta Falcons after being a two-time All-American at Florida State, Deion earned eight Pro Bowl selections, 53 career interceptions, and two Super Bowl titles. He also played nine seasons of professional baseball with the Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, and San Francisco Giants. Deion famously played a football game for the Falcons against the Miami Dolphins, then flew to Pittsburgh to play a baseball game with the Braves in the NLCS. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

How His Sons Followed Suit:
Deion Sanders Jr. was a two-star recruit in the 2012 class, signing with SMU as a wide receiver and kick returner. As a sophomore, he earned second-team All-American Athletic Conference honors as a kick returner. Shilo Sanders, ranked No. 287 in the 2019 class, joined South Carolina as a cornerback. Both Shilo and Shedeur played under the coaching of their father during their college years with the Jackson State Tigers and Colorado Buffaloes.

Now, Shedeur has followed in his father’s footsteps, being drafted by the Cleveland Browns with the 144th pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
