Warriors Expected to Pursue Bucks Center Brook Lopez in Upcoming Offseason
Golden State Warriors Eyeing Brook Lopez as Potential Kevon Looney Replacement
The Golden State Warriors are reportedly considering Milwaukee Bucks center Brook Lopez as a potential target in the upcoming offseason, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks. With the center market appearing thin, Lopez stands out as a likely candidate for the Warriors, who might be priced out of pursuing other options like Myles Turner.
Lopez, 37, is completing the final year of a two-year, $48 million contract. He earned $25 million last season and $23 million for the 2024-25 campaign, making him a potentially more affordable option due to his age. Marks noted that the Stanford alum, who resides in Fresno, could be a viable short-term addition if the Warriors can negotiate a reasonable one-year deal.
Throughout the 2024-25 season, Lopez played 80 games as a starter, averaging 13 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.9 blocks, and 31.8 minutes per game, while shooting 50.9% from the field, 37.3% from beyond the arc, and 82.6% from the free-throw line. He also ranked second in the league in total blocks (148) and fifth in block percentage (5.4%), underscoring his defensive presence.
In one standout performance against the Detroit Pistons on November 13, Lopez scored a season-high 29 points, shooting 52.9% from the field, 62.5% from deep, and 75% from the free-throw line.
The potential pursuit of Lopez comes as the Warriors prepare for the possible departure of veteran center Kevon Looney, who has been a key figure for the team over his decade-long tenure in the Bay Area. Looney, set to become a free agent this summer, has expressed interest in remaining with Golden State, although he acknowledges the uncertainty of free agency.
With Looney’s future unclear, Lopez’s combination of shot-blocking, floor-spacing, and veteran leadership could make him a valuable addition to the Warriors’ frontcourt.
