Warriors Get a Glimmer of Hope: Steph Curry Cleared for Light Work Amid Hamstring Strain
Golden State Warriors fans received a sliver of positive news on Wednesday as the team announced that Stephen Curry has been cleared for shooting drills and light on-court workouts. This development offers a potential lifeline for the Warriors, hinting at a possible return for their superstar guard if they can extend their Western Conference Semifinals series against the Minnesota Timberwolves to a Game 6.
Curry, sidelined with a strained left hamstring sustained in the opening game of the second-round matchup, was reevaluated by the Warriors medical staff on Wednesday prior to their crucial Game 5 clash in Minneapolis, which they ultimately lost 116-107, ending their season. The team reported that Curry is “making good progress” in his recovery.
Despite traveling with the team to Minnesota, Curry had already been officially ruled out for his fourth consecutive game. However, the fact that he has now been cleared for light activity suggests a positive trajectory in his rehabilitation.
This marks the first hamstring strain of Curry’s illustrious career, adding to the list of significant injuries that have impacted star players throughout these NBA playoffs. His absence has undeniably hampered the Warriors’ offensive fluidity and scoring prowess. In the series against the Timberwolves, Golden State has struggled with ball security, averaging 17 turnovers per game, and their three-point shooting has dipped to just 36%.
While Curry’s clearance for light work doesn’t guarantee his return, it provides a crucial boost to the Warriors’ morale, albeit in a season that has now concluded. Had they forced a Game 6, scheduled for Sunday in San Francisco, the three-day break between Games 5 and 6 would have provided Curry with valuable extra time to heal and potentially rejoin his teammates.
