WR Diontae Johnson signs one-year contract with the Browns.

The Cleveland Browns have agreed to a one-year contract with free agent wide receiver Diontae Johnson, as confirmed by a source to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Johnson’s deal comes after a visit to the Browns on Monday. The 28-year-old receiver had a tumultuous 2024 season, playing for three teams: the Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens, and Houston Texans. He began the season leading the Panthers with 30 receptions and 357 yards. However, he was traded to the Ravens in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick. During his short tenure in Baltimore, he made just one catch for six yards and was suspended for one game due to refusing to play against the Philadelphia Eagles on Dec. 1.

After being waived by the Ravens, Johnson was claimed by the Texans on Dec. 23. He caught two passes for 12 yards in a single game before being waived again on Jan. 14 following a visible outburst after playing just 15 snaps in a wild-card playoff victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

In a twist, Johnson was claimed off waivers by Baltimore again, but since he signed a contract after the NFL draft, he will not impact the Ravens’ compensatory pick formula for 2026.

The Browns, who did not draft a wide receiver last week, have been seeking a veteran presence at the position. While Pro Bowl selection Jerry Jeudy is the only wideout on the roster with 50 or more catches in a season, the Browns also signed return specialist DeAndre Carter. Meanwhile, Elijah Moore, who ranked second on the team with 538 receiving yards, remains unsigned. The Browns placed a seldom-used unrestricted free agent tender on Moore, who visited the Buffalo Bills on Monday. Moore will count toward the compensatory pick formula if he signs before July 22. If not, he will be eligible to sign only with the Browns. The tender is valued at $3.428 million.
